WI Reads
WI Reads is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing awareness, understanding, and implementation of the evidence-based literacy practices and the Science of Reading.
Lauren Zepp is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater where she trains pre-service and in-service teachers to implement the science of reading. She previously served as a special educator, reading teacher, and reading specialist. Lauren has served on the University of Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test (FoRT committee for three years and participated in the first ever higher education cohort of Launguage Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling.
Missy Schmidt completed her undergraduate degree in elementary education at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay in 2022. She became a licensed Reading Teacher/Reading Specialist in 2007 after earning her Master's Degree in Reading from Cardinal Stritch University. As a Wisconsin K-12 educator, Missy has taught Preschool, Kindergarten, and 7th grade Science and Language Arts and is currently providing reading intervention to students in the Grafton School District.

Learn about the rationale for and specifics of ACT 20, Wisconsin's Right to Read legislation of 2023.
Learn with Missy Schmidt, WI Reads Director and K-12 Reading Teacher/Specialist in the Grafton School District, to make sure you are prepared to administer Act 20 screener and diagnostic assessments and personal reading plans!
Act 20 requires CERI Accredited training for all K-3 educators, principals, reading specialists, and higher education faculty - by July 1, 2025.
WI Reads has hosted and provided scholarships for CERI Accredited Independent Teacher Training for over 5 years.
